Pastor

Rev. William W. Catlett has served as Pastor of Deep Run Baptist Church since July 20, 2003. Rev. Catlett grew up in the Richmond area where he graduated from Highland Springs High School and entered the U.S. Navy. In the same year of his graduation and enlistment, he was baptized in Sandston Baptist Church, Sandston, Virginia. During his Naval service, he married and began a life with the former Anne Harris.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, William Catlett began a career in the business world at IBM Corporation and then moved to the Philip Morris Research Center where he worked as an Electronics Specialist. He and his wife now had two small daughters and Bill was serving as a active deacon and church member of Falling Creek Baptist Church but still he realized something was missing from his life and his Christian experience. As Bill puts it, "Although I was very busy in church work, there was a lack of peace and contentment in my life."

William Catlett began a search as he found special meaning in Matthew 7:7-8 claiming the promise of Jesus to "ask, seek and knock." His commitment and expectation that God would reveal what was missing in his life was realized as God brought an awareness of His living presence resulting in a new found joy, peace and a hunger for God's Word he had never known before. Bill asked that God's will be known and done in his life and through a series of events he came to that certainty of God's call to the Gospel ministry. Bill resigned his job and followed his Lord.

Rev. Catlett was licensed to preach by the Falling Creek Baptist Church in Richmond in July 1971 and was ordained to the Gospel Ministry at the Sandston Baptist Church on August 10, 1973. His educational background includes a Diploma in Theology from Florida Baptist Theological College; a B.A. Degree from Mississippi College with a major in psychology and studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served in churches in Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi and most recently at Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Rev. Catlett and his wife, Anne, have two daughters, one son and four grandchildren.

Chairman of Deacons

Mr. Berry B. Shelton, Jr. was ordained as a Deacon at Deep Run Baptist Church on April 24, 2005, and began serving as Chairman of the Deacons upon his ordination.  Berry believes that a Deacon should be governed by the qualifications set forth in I Timothy 3:8-13.  He believes in supporting the Pastor in the ministry of the church, serving the needs of the congregation and community, being helpful in rendering assistance as needed, being a Christian witness, supporting the church and assisting other church staff members.  Berry is a member of the Personnel Committee, Choir, Music Committee and has served on the Pastor Search Committee.

After joining church, worshiping and serving for 45 years at his childhood church where he served as Trustee, Church School Superintendent, Church School Teacher and President of the Hanover Church School Union, Berry began attending services at Deep Run in 1997 where he and his family were led to join in 1999 under the leadership of the late Pastor Boyd.

Berry studied Industrial Education at Virginia State University and retired after 36 years in 2002 as Manager of Post Office Operations (USPS).  Berry and his wife, Rita, celebrated their 43rd anniversary on December 25, 2007.  They have three children, Berry Binford Shelton, III, Barry Barclay Shelton, Sr., and Bianca Berrita Shelton.  They have been blessed with three grandchildren, Shelby Alexandra Shelton, Barry Barclay Shelton, Jr. and Jaylen Maria Shelton.

Pianist

Mrs. Terry Jones has been a lifelong member at Deep Run, and feels that her church experiences growing up there as a child have prepared her to participate in the music program now. Being active at church from a young age she formed many lifelong friends there and found an interest in music through all the children's choirs along the way, Vacation Bible School, revivals, and adult choir as well. One common element in all of these were her music "mentors" who instilled in her the joy of Christian music--from gospel hymns, quartets, hymn "sings", bible school choruses for parent's night, and her very favorite of all --cantatas! These directors and musicians have nurtured and encouraged her over the many years and through their dedication created a desire to help continue the same caliber of music she enjoyed at Deep Run since a young child. She has played the piano in the past for her youth group, opening assembly for Sunday School. She has filled in as organist during the absence of Lucille Westbrook.
